Canale Italia: NetPOD with the Matrix PIM
Overview
Since 1976, year of its birth, the broadcasting station is countersigning among the private broadcasting stations for the quality of the produced programs and its advanced technical infrastructure. Its network, born as a local TV station, is now covering the entire nation. The broadcaster boasts a lot of productions and most of them are live from various locations in Italy, above all live News events with footage acquired by microwave link from any place on the peninsula
The Challenge
During years it was used a switching system managed from their main station in Padova using the same microwave links that transport the audio/video signal, but this solution was extremely complicated to use.
They needed a network to control and monitor on-site matrixes and in-site transmitting equipment too.
They were already working with ANT Group's remote control system so it was easy to upgrade the equipment which was on most of our network sites.
The Solution
Due to continuous growth of network operations a completely new system for the switching of video and audio signals for both diffusion and contribution was installed: The ANT Group's new NetPOD software and RDF site stations with the Matrix PIM.
In addition to matrix control, in the same sites where the matrixes are installed, the remote RDF's continually monitor the transmission equipment sending alarms, power levels, etc...
The Benefits
"The flexibility and the simplicity of management using a graphical user interface allow any commutation from and to the main station headquarters and blocks of previously planned patterns. All these operations can be done also by 'non-expert' personnel.
In any moment it is possible to have a clear overview of all the commutations and who operated because all is logged in the database.
