RDS uses Garda System to monitoring its broadcasting system

Overview

RDS Radio Dimensione Suono is a private national italian radio Broadcaster and with over its 500 FM repeaters is positioned on top of listening charts and growing every year with an important trend

The Challenge

Monitoring a growing and complex network in remote by technicians and administrative people in charge from RDS and all the external technicians of various maintenance companies with security access. To interface different kind of device with the controller.

The Solution

Garda system with NetPOD, the NMS software, and the RDF, the Radio Data Front-end.
The control center server NMS is installed in the main center in Rome.
RDS Garda's monitoring network configuration uses a mix of media to collect data from sites: principally they are connected through UHF Radio 400 MHz band (frequency assigned from The Italian Telecommunication Ministere) but there are also remote sites connected by GSM and by TCP/IP.
The RDFs were provided with the ANT Expansion Unit because the amount of IN/OUT points of the RDF standard were not enough to control all pieces of equipment like radio links, transmitters, UPS and so on.

The Benefits

Many devices controlled in every site around Italy.
Only authorized people have access to the NetPOD server through local net and through the internet. These users can access accordingly to the granted permissions and they can mange the complete monitor and control of the entire network or the simple view of their own site or region of competence, or a mix with visualization and control of few remote sites.
The NMS works without any technician presence: alarms can be sent to responsible persons through SMS and/or e-mail.
